From 2013 the ADAC will simply name its previous event package ADAC Masters Weekend ADAC GT Masters as part of its supporting program. a. since 2019 the ADAC GT4 Germany , since 2016 the ADAC TCR Germany and since 2015 the ADAC Formula 4 . The ADAC GT Masters is organized by the ADAC Motorsport Department from Munich in technical cooperation with the German Motorsport Association (DMSB). In 2010 and 2011, selected ADAC GT Masters events also included the German GT Championship advertised by the DMSB .

history

Race at the Sachsenring

In the mid-1970s, a national racing series was announced in Germany for the first time in the German racing championship , in which not only amateurs but also professional racing drivers in GT vehicles could take part in events. Until the breakup in 1985, the series increasingly opened to sports prototypes . In 1993 the ADAC GT Cup tried to close the gap. Up until 1997, races were held there in various vehicle categories in German-speaking countries. However, the series could not build on the success of the DRM, and a number of touring cars also started , initially to fill the starting fields. From 1995 the more powerful GT vehicles were banned and until 1997 the championship was driven almost exclusively with touring cars, with ever smaller starting fields.

Parallel to the events, the European GT championship BPR Global GT Series initiated by Stéphane Ratel , Patrick Peter and Jürgen Barth rose to the FIA GT championship led by the international automobile association . Ratel founded the SRO (Stéphane Ratel Organization) over the years and created the basis for several national GT series in Europe, Brazil and Australia with the various vehicle regulations. In addition to taking over the British and Belgian GT series, the SRO founded the ADAC GT Masters together with the ADAC in 2007. Jürgen Barth took over the management. Barth largely relied on the concept of the FIA GT3 European Championship, which has also been held by the SRO since 2006 .

Although there were plans on the part of the organizer in 2008 to expand the vehicles to include the GT4 category developed by the SRO, the vehicles remained the only approved racing cars according to the GT3 regulations. In the first few years, as in the European Championship, one-make cups were also won in addition to the main ranking. However, this evaluation was not continued in 2009. Instead, the ADAC separated the overall ranking into a professional and amateur ranking. In contrast to the FIA GT3 European Championship, which was discontinued at the end of 2012, pure professional driver pairings have also been permitted in the ADAC GT Masters since then. The ADAC GT Masters was organized between 2007 and 2011 by the Stéphane Ratel Organization in conjunction with the ADAC , under the direction of Jürgen Barth . Since the beginning of the 2012 season, ADAC has been organizing the ADAC GT Masters through its motorsport department in Munich, and has intensified its cooperation with the German Motorsport Association (DMSB) on the technical side.

Regulations

Technical regulations

Main article: Group GT3

In the ADAC GT Masters, all vehicles built according to GT3 regulations and homologated by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile are permitted. Each of these cars is put through a performance test before the season. All vehicles are tested by a driver appointed by the FIA and leveled with additional loads, engine limits or the like in order to bring everyone to the same level. This should guarantee equal opportunities. The vehicle classification is continuously checked and adjusted during the season. The DMSB is solely responsible for the vehicle classification in the ADAC GT Masters.

The ADAC GT Masters has been racing on standard Pirelli tires since the 2015 season . Between 2007 and 2011, Michelin and then Yokohama equipped the ADAC GT Masters with standard tires.

Sporting regulations

Master Thurn and Taxis (No. 1) overtakes the amateur championship master Toni Seiler

Each car must be occupied by two drivers, with both amateur and professional drivers permitted. Each driver is classified in one of four categories before an event . Levels A, B and C are reserved for professionals, while level D is for amateur drivers. In order to guarantee equal opportunities for the various driver pairs, the vehicles are given additional weight depending on the classification of the registered drivers. Since the 2013 season, the ADAC GT Masters has also allowed a combination of two professional drivers in driver category A for the first time. This combination was previously not permitted. At the same time, the system of handicap weights was revised.

The additional weight of the overall ranking has been regulated as follows since 2013:

combination Weight
A + A + 40 kg
A + B + 40 kg
B + B + 40 kg
A + C + 20 kg
B + C + 20 kg
A + D + 10 kg

A = platinum; B = gold; C = silver; D = bronze

The distribution of points per race took place from 2007 to 2010 according to the then valid FIA standard:

Point system
placement 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th
Points 10 8th 6th 5 4th 3 2 1

From the 2011 season, the new FIA points scheme will apply with the following awards:

Point system
placement 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 10
Points 25th 18th 15th 12 10 8th 6th 4th 2 1

Registered drivers and teams are entitled to point. Apart from the last four races of the season, guest starters also receive points.

In addition, category D drivers are listed in a separate gentlemen ranking. Between the years 2009 and 2012, the under-valuation of the category D drivers was called "amateur valuation", since 2013 gentlemen valuation. In order not to put driver combinations that consist exclusively of category D pilots at a disadvantage compared to professional / amateur combinations, all points achieved in this evaluation are multiplied by 1.5. In the case of professional / amateur combinations, only the category D driver is entitled to points in the amateur ranking. In the gentlemen category, prize money of 75,000 euros will be paid out.

On a race weekend, two races will be held over a distance of 60 minutes. Qualification training is held for each race, after which the starting grid is made. The driver with the lower ranking drives the first, the stronger the second timed practice. During the race, a pit stop must be made between the 25th and 35th minute, with a driver change taking place. Depending on the race track, there is a minimum time for the pit stop, the number of people who are allowed to work on the vehicle is limited to two. This regulation is intended to prevent the pit stops from being decisive for the race. Refueling and changing tires are not permitted during the race. This does not apply to damaged tires or if the race management declares the race to be a rain race.

After a race, placement weights are distributed that apply to the following race. The following rule applies:

space Weight
1 +30 kg
2 +20 kg
3 +10 kg

A maximum of 50 kg of placement ballast may be loaded per vehicle. The placement weights are neutralized after each race. Placement weights are intended to prevent series victories and also create equal opportunities.

Since 2016, in addition to the amateur ranking (since 2016 trophy ranking), a junior ranking has also been announced. It is reserved for the young racing drivers. Drivers with the "Silver" driver classification up to the age of 25 are entitled to start.

A trophy was also awarded in 2007 and 2008 for the best drivers of each brand. In 2007, only Porsche and Lamborghini had enough starters for the required minimum number of six vehicles. For the 2008 season, the minimum number of starters for the brand evaluation was reduced from six to four, after which the concept was completely discarded in favor of an amateur evaluation.
