The defender had previously been selected as a junior player in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 88th player by the New York Rangers . For the French Canadians, Miller made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1993/94 season . In that season and the following year, however, he mainly played for Québec's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Cornwall Aces .

After the resettlement of the Québec Nordiques, Miller initially played mainly for Cornwall in the AHL in the 1995/96 season. From 1996 he was on the ice exclusively for the new franchise of the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL. In February 2001 Miller was given to the Los Angeles Kings as part of an exchange deal , while the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup at the end of the 2000/01 season . Miller ran for the Kings for a total of six years in the NHL before he ended his career after the 2007/08 season with their league rivals Vancouver Canucks .
