Adama Njie (born February 7, 1978 ) is a former Gambian athlete.

Life

Njie ran the middle distance over 400 and 800 meters. Njie took part in the Summer Olympics three times for her home country (1996, 2000, 2004).

Originally, Njie's participation in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens was not planned. The high jumper Mama Gassama was supposed to represent Gambia. After she had already traveled to Athens, however, it turned out that her best performance did not correspond to the necessary starting height. Adama Njie was nominated for her at short notice. She took part in the women's 800 meter run . She completed the distance on August 20, 2004 in 2: 10.02 minutes. She finished the run last and could not qualify for the next round.

In 2001 she set two Gambian national records. On May 12, 2001, she ran 400 meters in 55.32 seconds in Bakau (Gambia). This record was broken by Binta Jallow in 2019 with 54.98 seconds. On June 28, 2001, she set another national record in Lagos (Nigeria) over 800 meters in 2: 05.41.
