Adolf Roth (born September 15, 1937 in Giessen ) is a German economist and politician ( CDU ).

Career and occupation

Roth was born the son of a businessman. After attending elementary school and graduating from high school in Gießen in 1957, Roth initially did military service. He remained associated with the Bundeswehr as a reservist , most recently in the rank of Ensign of the Reserve. In 1958 he began studying economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau , which he completed in 1962 with the examination to become a graduate economist . During his studies he became a member of the Catholic student associations KDSt.V. Moeno-Franconia Frankfurt am Main and KDSt.V. Falkenstein Freiburg in the CV .

After completing his studies, Roth initially worked in a commercial position in his father's mineral oil wholesaler. From 1965 to 1968 he was employed as a research assistant at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen , but then went into business for himself and became a co-owner of his father's company. He has also been a member of the plenary assembly of the Giessen Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 1970 .

Party work

Roth joined the CDU in 1957, joined the Junge Union and was a member of the state board of the JU Hessen from 1968 to 1972 . From 1975 to 1996 he was chairman of the CDU district association Vogelsberg .

Member of the state parliament

Roth was from 1968 to 1975 council member of the city of Giessen. He was elected to the Hessian state parliament in 1970 , where he was the economic policy spokesman and deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. Later he headed the parliamentary committee for economy and technology. On March 15, 1983, he resigned his state parliament mandate after he had previously been elected to the Bundestag.

Member of the Bundestag

Roth was a member of the German Bundestag from 1983 to 2002. From 1993 to 1998 he was chairman of the budget working group of the Union Group , and from 1998 to 2002 he was chairman of the budget committee. In parliament he represented the constituency of Giessen.
