Helmut Esters

Helmut Esters (born December 15, 1935 in Geldern ; † August 9, 2017 in Kevelaer ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1956 in Geldern, Esters studied history, political science and sociology. He was initially a research assistant and in 1963 became head of the Department of Social and Contemporary History at the Research Institute of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Bonn . From 1968 to 1971 he was personal advisor to the SPD treasurer Alfred Nau . He was also a member of the supervisory board of the German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) from 1975 to 1994 .

Political party

Esters had been a member of the SPD since 1958. From 1981 to 1989 he was chairman of the SPD sub-district of Kleve .

MP

Esters was from 1969 to 1981 council member of the city ​​of Kevelaer and there for a time chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. He was a member of the German Bundestag from January 15, 1969, when he replaced the retired member Klaus Huebner , until 1994. He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of the SPD North Rhine-Westphalia . In the Bundestag he was chairman of the audit committee from 1976 to 1982 . In 1982/83 he headed the Budget Committee .
