Advanced Chemistry ( AC ) was a hip-hop group from Heidelberg , founded in 1987 , which is one of the pioneers of German hip-hop . They made their breakthrough with the 1992 single Fremd im Vaterland .

history

The group consisted of " Toni-L ", "Linguist" (real name: Kofi Yakpo), "Gee-One", " DJ Mike MD " and " Torch ", some of whom are still musically active today. After DJ Mike MD and Gee-One left the band in the early 1990s, the group continued as a trio. The producer Boulevard Bou , who was always to be found in the Advanced Chemistry environment, but does not belong to the band, had a great influence on Advanced Chemistry .

Influenced by the American Conscious Rap and the Native Tongue movement , the central themes of Advanced Chemistry were politically and intellectually motivated and mainly revolved around their identity as Germans of foreign or Afro-German origin and the place of the hip-hop movement in the world . Advanced Chemistry was one of the few German-speaking hip-hop bands to become members of the Zulu Nation organization .
