Air Vanuatu is the national airline of Vanuatus , based in Port Vila and based at Bauerfield Airport .

history

Air Vanuatu was founded in 1981 under the name New Hebrides Airways . After independence from the UK and France in 1980, it was renamed Air Vanuatu a year later . It has been owned by the Vanuatu government since December 1987. In 2004 Air Vanuatu bought Vanair and took over a Boeing 727 .

Destinations

Air Vanuatu serves international destinations to Australasia and Oceania from Bauerfield Airport . Air Vanuatu flies regionally to the individual islands of Vanuatu .

There are also codeshare agreements with Air New Zealand , Fiji Airways and Qantas Airways .
