Alemannia Gelsenkirchen was a sports club from the Gelsenkirchen district of Ückendorf . The first soccer team played in the Gauliga Westfalen for six years .

history

The club was created on May 13, 1911 through the merger of Viktoria Gelsenkirchen and SuS Leithe to form SV Rheinelbe Gelsenkirchen . The club later took the name SV Alemannia . On April 5, 1934, Alemannia merged with Blau-Weiß Gelsenguß Gelsenkirchen to form SC Alemannia-Gelsenguß Gelsenkirchen . This became the BSG Gelsenguß Gelsenkirchen in 1937 and finally the SV Alemannia Gelsenkirchen in 1942 .

In terms of sport, the BSG Gelsenguß was promoted to the Gauliga Westfalen in 1939. The team finished the promotion round tied with Sportfreunde Siegen and MBV Linden 05 . Gelsenguss rose through the best torque quotient . The team finished the promotion season in sixth place. Among other things, a 10-1 win over Preußen Münster was achieved , while they lost 8-1 to VfL Bochum . In the Tschammerpokal 1940 Alemannia retired in the second round with 2: 9 at the Stuttgarter Kickers .

In the 1940/41 season Gelsenguß was runner-up with 14 points behind the champions FC Schalke 04 . Until the end of the Second World War , the team, now called Alemannia, remained in the Gauliga, without being able to build on previous successes. In 1947 Alemannia missed the qualification for the newly created Oberliga West . Two years later, the team lost the playoff for the championship of the national league season 2 against SpVgg Herten with 2: 3 after extra time , but was thus qualified for the newly created II. Division West and was tenth in the debut season 1949/50 . For financial reasons, Alemannia merged with local rivals Union Gelsenkirchen to form Eintracht Gelsenkirchen on June 30, 1950 .
