The Gauliga Westfalen 1940/41 was the eighth season of the Gauliga Westfalen in football. FC Schalke 04 secured the championship with 14 points ahead of Gelsenguß Gelsenkirchen . Schalke qualified for the final round of the German championship , where Schalke lost 3: 4 to SK Rapid Wien in the final despite a 3-0 lead and became runner-up. The relegation ranks were occupied by the German SC Hagen , Arminia Marten , Union Gelsenkirchen and Prussia Münster . SpVgg Herten and VfL Altenbögge rose from the district leagues . The Gauliga Westfalen played again with ten teams in the 1941/42 season.
