Alexander Donike (born August 12, 1961 in Düren ) is a former German amateur cyclist and today's cycling commissioner.

Cycling career

Alexander Donike comes from a cycling family: his father Manfred Donike was German champion in two-man team driving several times and later made a name for himself as a doping investigator, his brother Manfred was also a successful racing cyclist. Alexander Donike won in 1982 (with Manfred Donike) and 1983 (with Michael Marcussen ) the two-man team event for amateurs Silver Eagle of Cologne , three times the amateur six-day race in Cologne , twice that of Dortmund, and once each in Ghent , Stuttgart and Berlin , and at the German championship in two-man team driving, he finished fourth.

Functionary and organizer

At the beginning of the 1990s, Alexander Donike trained as a commissioner at the Association of German Cyclists (BDR) and in 1997 in Ottawa as a commissioner for the World Cycling Association Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). Since then, Donike has been a referee at outstanding cycling events around the world, such as the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , track world championships and world cups , as well as road world championships , cross world cups and international tours. He is the highest ranking UCI commissioner in Germany. In addition, since the death of his brother Manfred in 2003, he has headed the Technical Commission for Racing at the BDR, where he is responsible for training commissioners in Germany. He is Deputy Chairman of the Federal Sports and Arbitration Tribunal of the BDR.

In addition to his work as a commissioner, Alexander Donike is also active in the organization of cycling events, including as technical director at Rund um Köln , Rund um Düren and Rad am Ring . In 2018 he took over the running of the race from Artur Tabat , who had organized Around Cologne for 46 years. His commitment to Around Cologne ended on October 31, 2019 .

In 2013 Donike was awarded the gold badge of honor by the Association of German Cyclists .
