Alexander Gavrilowitsch Schljapnikow
Alexander Gawrilowitsch Schljapnikow ( Russian Александр Гаврилович Шляпников ; born August 30, 1885 in Murom ; † September 2, 1937 in Moscow ) was a Russian trade unionist and politician .
Life
Alexander Schljapnikow was a metal worker and since 1901 a member of the Russian Social Democratic Workers' Party , since 1918 Communist Party of Russia , later the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). After years in prison and in exile , he established Lenin's connection with the party in Russia during the First World War . After the October Revolution he became Minister of Labor in the first Soviet government and the most important leader of the workers' opposition . In 1933 he was expelled from the CPSU and sentenced to five years in prison in 1935 for allegedly continuing this opposition group. In 1937, during the Great Terror, he was sentenced to death and shot .
