The Evangelical Lutheran Alexander Church ( Finnish: Aleksanterin kirkko ) in Tampere bears the name of the Russian Tsar and Grand Duke of Finland , Alexander II. 25 years after his accession to the throne, the cornerstone of the church was laid on March 2, 1880. It was finally consecrated on the first Sunday of Advent in 1881 (November 27).

The architect Theodor Decker designed an essentially neo-Gothic church, which, however, also has Romanesque elements inside . The altar picture painted by Alexandra Frosterus-Såltin in 1883 shows the transfiguration of the Lord .

During painting and renovation work in 1937, a fire broke out. Most of the interior was damaged. A year later, in December 1938, the church could be used again. In that year the Alexander Church received its organ with 56 registers . Another renovation followed in 1980.
