Alwin Brinkmann (born February 18, 1946 in Leer ) was Lord Mayor of Emden in East Frisia from 1986 to 2011 . From 1986 to 1998 he held this position on a voluntary basis, and since the local elections in September 1998 he has been a full-time employee. After Herbert Schmalstieg's retirement as Lord Mayor of Hanover (2006), Alwin Brinkmann was the longest-serving Lord Mayor of the independent cities of Lower Saxony.

Brinkmann learned the profession of technical draftsman / mechanical engineer. He worked at the Emden power station (formerly PreussenElektra , now E.ON ) and at the North Sea Works .

He has been a member of the SPD since 1973 . From 1981 until his election as full-time mayor in 1998, he was a full member of the Emden Council. By virtue of his office as Lord Mayor, he was also entitled to vote in the city council, but with a special position. From 1983 until his election as honorary mayor in 1986, he was parliamentary group leader of the SPD in the Emden council.

From 1994 to 1998 Brinkmann also represented the constituency of Emden / Hinte / Krummhörn in the Lower Saxony state parliament as a member of parliament , in parallel to his position as honorary mayor . He resigned from this office when he was elected full-time mayor. In the local elections in 2011, he no longer ran. On October 29, 2011 he was officially retired from his mayor's office in Emden. His successor in this office is Bernd Bornemann (SPD). Today he is still top dike judge the dike Krummhörn night and monitored with colleagues from the dike night the dikes of Emden to Greetsiel.

Alwin Brinkmann is married and has one son.
