American Sociological Review is an academic journal published by the American Sociological Association (ASA) and SAGE Publications . The magazine appears every two months.

The American Sociological Association initially consisted largely of members of the Sociology Department at the University of Chicago . Until 1935, the ASA's official journal was the American Journal of Sociology, published by the University of Chicago Press . In 1935, the ASA decided to create a magazine that was independent of the University of Chicago. In 1936 the American Sociological Review was founded.

In 2013, Tony Brown ( Vanderbilt University ), Katharine Donato (Vanderbilt), Randy Hodson ( Ohio State University ), Larry Isaac (Vanderbilt), Holly McCammon (Vanderbilt) and Vincent J. Roscigno (Ohio State) are the editors-in-chief.

According to the Journal Citation Reports , the journal had an Impact Factor of 4.077 in 2012, ranking it second out of 139 sociology journals.
