America is an American television series from 1986/87, produced for approximately $ 44 million and broadcast by ABC . The spelling of the title with a " k " is taken from the Russian spelling for "America". America fictitiously describes the life and development of the population in 1997, ten years after the USA was non-violently occupied by the USSR .

action

In 1997, ex-presidential candidate Devin Milford was released from prison after six years of imprisonment following a brainwashing program as "cured". The USA has been occupied by the USSR nonviolently for ten years after a technological collapse, probably initiated by the Soviet Union.

The occupying power decreed that Milford should return to his parents' house and not be allowed to see his two children, who live with his ex-wife Marion, again. Marion divorced while Milford was in custody and lives in a relationship with the Russian General Samanov that she can use wisely for her political career. She is intended for the position of Deputy "Governor General" alongside Peter Bradford, Milford's former party friend, of "Heartland". "Heartland" is one of 12 new states that are to emerge from the states of the entire former USA in order to end the years of economic catastrophe and human agony of the American people and ultimately to crush the former adversary of the Cold War. KGB colonel Denisov is responsible for carrying out the reorganization.

Denisov and Marion underestimate Milford's continued popular popularity. This becomes painfully noticeable not only for both, but for the entire Soviet occupation, when Milford flees his home to see and kidnap his children. To prevent a popular uprising, the detonation of atomic bombs is planned over three American cities.

Special aspects

America emerged not least based on end-time dramas like The Day After and Red Dawn . The series has never been repeated since it first aired on American television. Whether the discussion accompanying this TV series, in particular the portrayal of the USSR, was responsible or the rather low ratings cannot be clarified without a doubt.
