Ames (also Amsu ) is the ancient Egyptian name for an insignia , either a club or a scepter. The Ames was one of the divine and royal emblems that was charged with divine powers. It was used in particular either in the cult of the dead in connection with the royal ascent into the sky or with the ritual act of "swinging the Ames club for the suppression of the enemies of Egypt".
