The higher court was initially the Mannheim court and from 1864 the Heidelberg district court .

The Heidelberg District Court was initially one of 19 district courts in the Lower Rhine District of Baden . In the grand ducal period in 1858 it was manned by two magistrates, a registrar, three actuaries, a bailiff, a prison guard and three bailiffs. The court district comprised 22 parishes.
