The Swiss Criminal Code defines general abuse of office threatened with imprisonment in Article 312 as the abuse of official power by members of an authority or civil servant in order to gain an unlawful advantage for themselves or for another person or to inflict a disadvantage on another.

In addition, Articles 312–320 (Eighteenth Title) define further official offenses as criminal offenses against official and professional duty.
