Beginning at the Schmücke in the north and moving clockwise, it borders the following cities and communities: Bad Frankenhausen / Kyffhäuser , Artern , Reinsdorf , Gehofen , Roßleben-Wiehe , Oberheldrungen , Kölleda , Sömmerda , Etzleben , Büchel , Riethgen and Kindelbrück .

City structure

The city consists of the districts Braunsroda , Bretleben , Gorsleben , Hauteroda , Heldrungen , Hemleben , Lundershausen , Oldisleben (with Hermann-Güntherodt-Siedlung ) and Sachsenburg .

history

As part of the voluntary associations of local government reform in 2018 and 2019, reached an understanding that communities Bretleben , Gorsleben , Hauteroda , Heldrungen (city), Hemleben , Oldisleben on a merger on January 1, 2019. They are one of the communities Etzleben and Oberheldrungen for administrative community at the Schmücke , which was also dissolved on January 1, 2019. An der Schmücke acts as a fulfilling community for the latter communities. In November 2018, five mayors proposed that the future rural community be named “Heldrungen”. However, this proposal could not be passed unanimously. In addition, the hearing phase, in which a written position should have been submitted, had already ended.

In the mayoral election on May 26, 2019 , Holger Häßler (non-party) was elected first mayor of the new municipality with a turnout of 58.1% with 54.3% of the valid votes. He prevailed against Thomas Wolff (CDU), who received 45.7% of the vote.
