Andrew Hourmont

Andrew Hourmont (* 1966 in Cardiff , Wales , Great Britain ) is the founder, managing director and creative head of Blue Wings GmbH, which has been organizing the Air & Style Snowboard Contest since 1993 .

Career

Hourmont moved with his family to Innsbruck , Austria , in 1976 because of his and his brothers' great enthusiasm for winter sports . He used to be a member of the UK national ski team , but has suffered numerous injuries (especially his knee). He was the manager of the Burton snowboard team in the 1980s and later worked as a successful ski and snowboard photographer.

In 1994, together with Charly Weger , he organized the first Air & Style Contest on Innsbruck's Bergisel , which quickly became a leading event in the snowboard scene. With this event he also founded the Air & Style Company . In 1997 he received the communication crystal from the Tyrol Chamber of Commerce for his achievements .

In 1999 a new jump should be created with the European Open in the Axamer Lizum and the Air & Style Skate Contest . The tragedy at the 7th Air & Style Contest at Bergisel , in which five visitors lost their lives, slowed down or destroyed these plans for a long time. The Air & Style Company had to file for bankruptcy, but shortly afterwards Blue Wings GmbH (referring to the official logo of the contest). The Air & Style Skate Contest in Berlin had to be canceled at short notice after the attacks in New York in 2001 and was quickly integrated into the Air & Style Snowboard Contest in Seefeld .

In 2005, after the contract in Seefeld had expired, Andrew Hourmont went to the Olympic Stadium in Munich with the contest . In 2010, the event had to be canceled for the first time after the failure of the main sponsor Nokia .

After the city administration of Innsbruck asked Andrew Hourmont in spring 2007 to hold another competition at Bergisel , Air & Style returned to Innsbruck on February 2, 2008 in the form of a quarterpipe contest. Billabong has been the main sponsor in Innsbruck since 2009 .

In December 2010 the competition took place in Beijing, China for the first time. Three more events followed in Beijing in the following years, while Air & Style 2014 will no longer take place in Bergisel. In May 2013, the contest should also take place in Mexico for the first time . However, the expansion of Air & Style events to the American continent has not yet become a reality.
