Andrzej Mieczysław Juskowiak (born November 3, 1970 in Gostyń ) is a former Polish football player .

Career

In 1987 he left his home club Kania Gostyń and joined Lech Posen , where he - at that time already one of the outstanding Polish talents - had better training opportunities. Already at the age of 17 he was used in the first team in the 1987/88 season, a year later the still youngster scored his first league goals. In his first full season in 1989/90, Juskowiak was Poland's top scorer with 18 goals .

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he was the top scorer and reached the final, which Poland lost to Spain. With this tournament in the limelight for the first time, Juskowiak was able to underpin his reputation as a striker of international stature at Sporting Lisbon , where he played for three years from 1992. The striker has played in Germany since 1996. After stints at clubs such as Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg , he played for FC Erzgebirge Aue from January 2004 to 2007 . His greatest triumph during this time was his triumph in the European Cup against Arsenal as a striker for Borussia Mönchengladbach . For a long time, Juskowiak was VfL Wolfsburg's most successful goalscorer in the German Bundesliga with 39 Bundesliga goals.

At FC Erzgebirge Aue , he played 110 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and was the most successful goalscorer in the club's second division history with 33 goals.

After the 2006/07 season, the Pole ended his playing career. On September 7, 2007, his farewell game against his youth club Lech Posen took place. It ended 2: 4 (2: 0) for Poznan. In this game Juskowiak played one half for both clubs.

Juskowiak played 39 times for the Polish national football team and scored 13 goals. In qualifying for the European Championship in 1996, Juskowiak was the most successful goalscorer (seven hits) of the Polish group. However, his team could not qualify for the tournament in England.

Juskowiak has been commenting on football matches on Polish television since he retired. B. the 2013 UEFA Champions League final .

Juskowiak has been working as a talent scout for FC Erzgebirge Aue since July 2013 .
