Angarsk ( Russian Анга́рск ) is a city in Russia founded in 1948 with 233,567 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). It is named after the Angara River , on whose bank it lies.
Geographical location
The city is located in the south of the Irkutsk Oblast in Siberia at the confluence of the Angara and Kitoi rivers , just under 4200 km as the crow flies from Moscow ; to the next big city Irkutsk it is about 50 km.

Construction of Angarsk began in 1948, and in 1951 it was given city status.

Economy and Transport
The economy in Angarsk mainly consists of the oil industry, mechanical engineering, metalworking, wood processing, chemical production, petrochemicals .
Angarsk is one of the locations of the Russian nuclear program. In addition to Novouralsk , Seversk and Selenogorsk , the Angarsk Chemical Combine also processes depleted uranium from the uranium enrichment plants in Gronau and Almelo . As a result, the city became the scene of violent clashes over Russian nuclear policy, which in July 2007 claimed a fatality among demonstrators against nuclear power.
Angarsk is connected to the Trans-Siberian Railway . Local public transport in the city is carried out by the Angarsk tram , among others .
Culture and sport
Angarsk has a watch museum and the Angarsk Technology Academy.
In 2006 construction began on a new ice hockey hall, which since its opening in 2010 under the name “ Jermak Arena ” (Russian: “Аре́на Ерма́к” ) has seated 7,000 spectators at the home games of the Jermak Angarsk ice hockey club .
