Aniek van Koot (born August 15, 1990 in Winterswijk ) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Aniek van Koot started wheelchair tennis at the age of ten and started in the paraplegic class . She was born with a shortened right leg and had it amputated after several unsuccessful corrective operations.

In 2012 she took part in the Paralympic Games for the first time. She reached the final in both singles and doubles. In the singles she was defeated by Esther Vergeer 0: 6, 3: 6. She and her partner Jiske Griffioen lost the double final against Esther Vergeer and Marjolein Buis 1: 6, 3: 6. She won another silver medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 . In the final she was defeated by Jiske Griffioen in three sets. In doubles, she won the gold medal with Griffioen.

At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters she was three times in the singles final. In 2011 it was defeated by Esther Vergeer and in 2012 by Jiske Griffioen. In 2014 she won the title after beating Griffioen in three sets. In doubles, she has won three out of five finals so far. In 2009 and 2011 she was defeated at Griffioen's side, in 2010 she won with Sharon Walraven and in 2012 and 2015 again with Griffioen. At Grand Slam tournaments , she celebrated her first two titles in singles with wins at the Australian Open and the US Open . So far she has won ten doubles titles. In 2013 she managed a Grand Slam with Jiske Griffioen when she won all four Grand Slam tournaments of the season.

In the world rankings, Aniek van Koot had temporarily taken the lead in both singles and doubles. She succeeded for the first time in singles on January 28, 2013 and in doubles on July 26, 2010.
