Marjolein Buis (born January 11, 1988 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player .
Career
Marjolein Buis suffers from the connective tissue disease Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in her ankles and is dependent on a wheelchair. She started wheelchair tennis at the age of 17 and started in the paraplegic class .
She took in 2012 at the Paralympic Games in London in part. In the individual competition, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Sabine Ellerbrock in three sets. In doubles, she won the gold medal with Esther Vergeer . In the final they defeated Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot 6-1, 6-3. In 2016 she was eliminated again in the quarterfinals. In the doubles competition she won the silver medal with Diede de Groot .
In Grand Slam tournaments , she celebrated winning the doubles title at the side of Esther Vergeer at the French Open in 2012 . In 2016 she also won the Australian Open in doubles , while she won her first Grand Slam title in singles at the French Open. In 2017 further double titles followed at the French Open and the US Open , and in 2018 at the Australian Open . In the world rankings she achieved her best placings with second place in singles on December 26, 2016 and with the world rankings in doubles on November 5, 2012.
In 2014 she completed a bachelor's degree in psychology parallel to her sporting career .
