Diede de Groot (born December 19, 1996 in Woerden ) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Diede de Groot played her first international tournament at the age of 13. She achieved her best placings in the world rankings on January 30, 2017 with third place in singles and fourth place in doubles. She had previously reached the final of the doubles competition at the Australian Open , her first Grand Slam participation. In July 2017, she won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon . At the US Open , she secured her first double title in Grand Slams that same year. In 2018, she won the individual competitions at the Australian Open , Wimbledon and US Open .

She had already won her first big title at the Wheelchair Tennis Masters in 2016 when she won the doubles competition with Lucy Shuker . At the 2016 Summer Paralympics , she won the silver medal in doubles with Marjolein Buis . In the individual , she was eliminated in the semifinals against Jiske Griffioen and lost in the subsequent bronze game to Yui Kamiji .
