Anthony Terlazzo (born July 28, 1911 in Patti , Italy , † March 26, 1966 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American weightlifter .

Career

He was the son of Italian immigrants in the 1920s. Having landed in New York , he first played many sports as a child and adolescent, before moving to weightlifting because he was very small and light and wanted to get stronger. A project that, as it later turned out, completely succeeded. At the York Barbell Club he had the best possible support at the time. At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he was the first American to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting. In 1936, at the Olympic Games in Berlin , he won the featherweight division and became Olympic champion. Until 1947, Anthony Terlazzo remained among the world's top weightlifters.
