Research describes a Greek vase painter as the antiphon painter . It owes its emergency name to a double Kalos inscription on an antiphon on the dinosaur stand in the Berlin Collection of Antiquities (inventory number F 2325). He was between 500 and 475 BC. Chr. In Athens as a painter of the red-figure style in the biggest bowl workshop of v 5th century. Chr. Operates. He learned his craft in the workshop of Euphronios at Onesimos . There he worked closely with him, the Kalmar painter and other painters.

About 100 traditional drinking vessels (primarily kyliken ) are assigned to him. The representations deal almost exclusively with the life of the aristocratic youth of Athens. He shows them as athletes, at symposia , as comasts , with their horses or at the gun barrel . Depictions of women - especially hetaerae - are rare, as are mythological themes. If he takes on mythological subjects, it is mostly the exploits of Heracles or Theseus . One of its bowls may refer to the Battle of Marathon ( Orvieto , Faina collection). A particular specialty of the painter were red-figure eye cups . The antiphon painter was the last artist to create such.
