Antonio Di Salvo (born June 5, 1979 in Paderborn ) is a former German - Italian soccer player . He is the assistant coach of the German U-21 national team .

Career

Di Salvo started playing soccer at BV Bad Lippspringe and switched to TuS Paderborn-Neuhaus at the age of 12 . In 1996 he played for the club, which was renamed SC Paderborn 07 in 1997 , in the Regionalliga West / Südwest as a striker. By December 18, 1999 (21st matchday), he completed 53 league games and scored 16 goals.

At the age of 20, he moved to FC Bayern Munich in January 2000 . First used in the amateur team in the Regionalliga Süd , he made his debut on August 19, 2000 (2nd match day) in a 3-0 win in the away game against VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga , when he came on for Carsten Jancker in the 71st minute . This was followed by five more appearances in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League , which were characterized by late substitutions . Even if he was hardly involved in Bayern's title win , as a member of the team he has a share in the successes.

At the end of July 2001, he played one more game in the league cup for FC Bayern Munich and the first game of the season for FC Bayern Munich Amateurs before moving to Bundesliga club Hansa Rostock on August 1 . For the he played 94 league games until relegation in 2005 and scored 17 goals. In the following season - Di Salvo stayed in Rostock - he scored three goals in 18 second division games . He also played eight games for the DFB Cup (5 goals) and one game in the league cup competition. During his time in Rostock he often struggled with injuries, which is why he could often only be deployed for a short time.

2006/07 - signed free of charge in the summer of 2006 - he was a member of the squad of the second division TSV 1860 Munich , whose regular player (25 games, 3 goals) he was in the first half of the season. In the second half of the season, however, a muscle injury in his thigh threw him back, causing Di Salvo to lose his regular place. The 2007/08 season was Di Salvos' most successful sporting career since he signed with TSV 1860 Munich. In the first half of the season he had already scored seven goals after eight games and also scored four times in the DFB Cup, which put him at the top of the club's internal scorer list. In the second half of the season, a rift of syndesmosis threw him back. Since then, he has not been able to match his top form from the first half of the 2007/08 season. In the first half of the 2008/09 season he was used twelve times, remained goalless and only played over 90 minutes once. In the second half of the season he was repeatedly thrown back from minor injuries, so that he was not used.

The move to another club suggested by the club in the summer of 2009 could not be implemented at the end of the transfer period. Di Salvo, still counting in the six-man squad , was then excluded from team training by coach Ewald Lienen . After being trained separately by assistant coach Bernhard Winkler for a few weeks with Marvin Pourie , who had also fallen out of favor with TSV 1860 Munich , he took part in training for the second team of the Sechzger from October .

In the following winter break, Di Salvo moved to the Austrian first division club Kapfenberger SV . With the Obersteirern he signed a performance-oriented contract that was valid until the summer of 2010 and was then not extended. On February 20, 2010 (21st matchday) he made his debut in a 1-1 draw at home against SV Ried when he came on for Deni Alar in the 60th minute .

Di Salvo ended his career soon afterwards and obtained his B coaching license , after which he returned to his former club FC Bayern Munich in the summer of 2011 and was active as an assistant coach of the U-17 team until 2013 . He has held the Trainer A license since 2012. From July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2016, he was in charge of the German U-19 national team under coach Marcus Sorg , which he helped to win the European title in 2014 . He is also responsible as the DFB base coordinator for Eastern Bavaria. At the U-19 European Championships in 2016, he assisted Guido Streichsbier before moving to the U-21 national team on July 1, 2016 as assistant coach under Stefan Kuntz . With the German U-21 national team, he became European champion in 2017 .

In March 2018, Di Salvo successfully passed his coaching course and received the DFB football instructor license .
