Antonio Mirante (born July 8, 1983 in Castellammare di Stabia , Province of Naples ) is an Italian football goalkeeper who has been under contract with AS Roma since 2018 .
Career
Antonio Mirante went through the youth teams of Juventus Turin , in the 2003/04 season he switched to the professional team, but was not used. In the following season he was loaned to FC Crotone in Serie B to gain experience , where he was a regular goalkeeper and managed to stay with his team. The following season Mirante denied on loan at AC Siena in Serie A , where he made his debut on August 28, 2005 in the 2-1 game against Cagliari Calcio and attracted attention by good performances. During this time, the goalkeeper was also a few times in the squad of the Italian U-21 national team , but was not used.
For the 2006/07 season Antonio Mirante returned to Juventus Turin, who had to be relegated to Serie B due to the manipulation scandal . Already in the pre-season he showed convincing performances in friendly games against AC Milan and Inter Milan . When Juve's undisputed number 1 Gianluigi Buffon was sent off after an emergency brake on November 18, 2006 in the game against UC AlbinoLeffe , Mirante made his debut at Juventus. In the following years he completed a total of seven second division games in which he showed good performances and achieved direct promotion with Juventus.
For the 2007/08 season , Juve loaned him to Sampdoria Genoa where Antonio Mirante made 13 Serie A games, but was only second goalkeeper behind Luca Castellazzi . In the summer of 2008, the Genovese bought 50% of his transfer rights for 1.3 million euros and signed him further. 2008/09 Mirante completed only a few games for Samp , mostly Castellazzi was preferred to him.
In June 2009, the transfer business was extended by a year, after which Mirante moved to Serie A promoted FC Parma on loan . In June 2010 he was finally signed by Parma FC.
After the bankruptcy of FC Parma, Mirante moved to FC Bologna for the 2015/16 season on a free transfer .
Mirante has also been regularly in the extended environment of the Italian national team since 2010 . He was nominated by the then national coach Cesare Prandelli in August 2010, August 2012 and March 2014, but remained unused. For the 2014 World Cup , Mirante was intended as a potential replacement for the ailing Salvatore Sirigu , but he could take part in the tournament. Before the 2016 European Championships , he was nominated by coach Antonio Conte for a training camp that served as preparation for the European Championships. However, he missed the leap into the final squad and has not been considered since.
