Career
As a player
Antti Törmänen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of the Espoo Blues , for whose professional team he was active from 1988 to 1990 in the second-rate I divisioona . He then moved to Jokerit , for whom he played in the SM-liiga for the next five years . During this time, the attacker won the Finnish championship title in 1992 and 1994 and was runner-up with his team in 1995. In addition, the left shooter won the European Cup with Jokerit in the 1994/95 season . During this time, Törmänen was selected in the eleventh round of the eleventh round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 by the Ottawa Senators , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1995/96 season . In the only NHL year of his career, the Finn scored a total of 15 points scorer in 50 games, including seven goals. He was also on the ice in 27 games for Ottawa's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Prince Edward Island Senators .
After his one-year stint in North America, Törmänen returned to Jokerit, with whom he became champions again in 1997. In the following season he and his team only narrowly failed to defend their title in third place. He then signed for the first time in other European countries, where the former NHL player ran from 1998 to 2000 for HV 71 Jönköping in the Swedish Elitserien . Another two years at Jokerit followed, with the 1998 Olympic participant winning the title for the fourth time with the capital city in 2002. Törmänen ended his career, who was on the ice in his country's only World Cup title until 2011, and in 2004 with the Swedish first division club Södertälje SK .
As a trainer
In the 2007/08 season, Törmänen was the head coach of the Espoo Blues U20 team . Two seasons later, Törmänen was active as an assistant coach at Jokerit from the SM-liiga . During the 2010/11 season he was the head coach of the Finnish second division club Vaasan Sport and won the Mestis championship with it . He also worked there as Director of Hockey Operations . He was then signed by SC Bern from the National League A in the position of assistant coach. After Larry Huras was fired on October 21, 2011, Törmänen was initially introduced as an interim trainer at SC Bern. In mid-December of the same year, he received a contract as head coach until the end of the 2012/13 season, if SC Bern would at least reach the 2012 playoff semi-finals. Since SC Bern was runner-up, this clause was applied.
In the 2012/13 season he won the Swiss championship title with SC Bern .
On November 22, 2013, Törmänen, who had only scored 29 points in 24 games with SC Bern, was dismissed. In April 2014 he took over the position of head coach at the Finnish first division club HIFK . At the end of the 2016/17 season, his training at HIFK ended. In December 2017 he was hired by EHC Biel as head coach. Under Törmänen's direction, Biel reached the playoff semi-finals for the first time in 28 years in the 2017/18 season.
International
For Finland , Törmänen took part in the 1995 , 1997 , 1998 and 1999 World Ice Hockey Championships . He was also in Finland's squad at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , as well as the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 , with the latter without use.
