The Ariake Arena ( Japanese 有 明 ア リ ー ナ , Ariake arīna ) is a multi-purpose hall in the south of the Japanese capital Tokyo , more precisely in the Ariake district of the Kōtō district of Tokyo .

history

The arena was built for the 2020 Summer Olympics and offers up to 15,000 seats. The cost was calculated at 35.7 billion  yen . The opening was planned for December 2019. After completion of the arena in December 2019, it was officially inaugurated on February 3, 2020 with a ceremony that unites sport, culture and entertainment. During the Olympic Games 2020 , the volleyball tournaments are to be held in the Ariake Arena. The arena will also be used for wheelchair basketball competitions at the Paralympic Games .

After the Olympic Games, cultural events such as concerts will also take place in the hall .
