Ashot Danieljan

Aschot Romani Danieljan ( Armenian Աշոտ Ռոմանի Դանիելյան ; English Ashot Danielyan ; born April 11, 1974 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , USSR ) is a former Armenian weightlifter .

He was Junior World Champion in 1994 and took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where he finished thirteenth in the super heavyweight division. At the European Championships in 1998 he reached fourth place. In 1999 and 2000 he was European champion. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he was third. However, he was tested positive for stanozolol during the subsequent doping control , whereupon he was disqualified and his medal was revoked .

In 2003 he won the silver medal at the European Championships and came in sixth at the World Championships . In 2004 he took part in his third Olympic Games in Athens but had no valid attempt. In 2005 he won bronze at the European Championships and came in sixth at the World Championships . He was runner-up at the 2006 European Championships , but tested positive again and banned for life.
