Disasters

  • 1952 : On the Pan Am Flight 526A has a Douglas DC-4 off the coast of Puerto Rico in heavy seas ditch . Although all 69 occupants survived the impact, 52 passengers remained on board because of the uncoordinated evacuation and went down with the aircraft.
  • 1965 : During the Palm Sunday tornado outbreak of 1965, 78 tornadoes hit the American Midwest. 271 people are killed, the majority of them in the US state of Indiana.
  • 1996 : In the late afternoon, a fire breaks out at Düsseldorf Airport . 17 people die, 88 others are injured.
