The 1992 Thai Sky Asian Open was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 1991/92 season , which was held in Bangkok from January 14th to 19th . For the third time the tournament took place in the Thai capital, but for the first time after the turn of the year in January, as Bangkok had already hosted the Thailand Masters in August .
For the two-time title holder Stephen Hendry , the way to defend his title was already over in round 2. Steve Davis and Alan McManus contested the final . The Englishman won 9: 3 and thus got his third win in a row on the professional tour and his fifth title this season. At the beginning of the season he had also won the Thailand Masters in Bangkok.
Main tournament
As in the first two editions of the tournament, the 32 players who had passed the qualification were drawn to the top 32 of the world rankings in the main tournament . All rounds including the semi-finals went over 5 winning frames ( best of 9 ). The final was Best of 17, so the winner was whoever won 9 frames first.
