August von Schmieden (born June 23, 1860 in Bautzen , † May 25, 1939 in Radebeul ) was a Saxon lieutenant general .

Life

August came from the noble family von Schmieden and was the son of the Saxon major general Maximilian August von Schmieden (1817-1893) and his wife Berta Mathilde, née von Germar (1833-1926).

He married Ida Freiin von Berg (* 1869), daughter of Günther Hans Dietrich von Berg (* 1841) in Strasbourg in November 1891. His son was Werner von Schmieden .

Before the First World War he was in command of the Zeithain military training area . During the war, Schmieden came to the French Western Front as commander of the 105th Reserve Infantry Brigade of the 53rd Reserve Division . On May 27, 1915 he received the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry . His last rank was lieutenant general.

On March 6, 1925, he received an entry in the Saxon nobility register under no. 573.

Schmieden inherited his parents' villa at Winzerstraße 43 , now a listed building , in the Niederlößnitz district of today's town of Radebeul , where he lived until his death. He died in 1939 and, like his parents, was buried in the Radebeul-West cemetery.
