Auguste Le Guennant

Auguste Le Guennant (born January 10, 1881 in Auray , † 1972 ) was a French organist , composer and music teacher .

Life

Guennant studied organ with Alexandre Guilmant and composition with Vincent d'Indy at the Schola Cantorum in Paris . Until 1905 he was organist at the Notre Dame de Clignancourt church . He then worked as organist at the Church of Notre Dame de Bon-Port in Les Sables-d'Olonne and from 1908 at St. Nicolas in Nantes .

He taught at the Institut Catholique in the 1940s and later headed the Institut Grégorien in Paris. Maurice Duruflé dedicated his four motets on Gregorian themes to him in 1960 . Guennant composed some church music choir and organ works.
