The Augustinerkantorei was founded in 1877 as the Augustinian church choir and is now Erfurt's evangelical oratorio choir with 120 singers (as of 2016). He belongs to the preacher parish of the Erfurt church district. Since 1990 he has been under the direction of the regional church music director Dietrich Ehrenwerth .
The Augustinerkantorei's program includes oratorios, which are usually performed together with the Andreas Chamber Orchestra , which is also directed by Ehrenwerth.
