The Snøhetta is a mountain in Norway , which is located in Dovrefjell in the municipality of Dovre in the province of Innlandet . At 2286 m it is the highest mountain in Norway outside of Jotunheimen .
Jens Esmark performed the first known ascent in 1798.
In the past, the Snøhetta was considered the highest mountain in Norway because, unlike Galdhøpiggen and Glittertind , it stands free.
The mountain has different peaks:
- Stortoppen, 2286 m . There is a radio station for the Norwegian Armed Forces on it , which is powered by a diesel generator .
- Midttoppen, 2278 m
- Hettpiggen, 2261 m
- Vesttoppen, 2253 m
