Aurelio Vidmar (born February 3, 1967 in Adelaide , Australia ) is a former Australian football player who now works as a coach .
career
Club career
Vidmar began his career in his home town of Adelaide City before moving to Europe in 1991. His first stop was the Belgian association KV Kortrijk . There he knew how to convince and moved to the second division club KSV Waregem . After his relegation in 1994, the Oceania Footballer of the Year went to Standard Liège . There he was top scorer with 22 goals.
In 1995 Vidmar tried briefly at Feyenoord Rotterdam , but then went to FC Sion . During the summer break in 1996 he moved to Spain to CD Tenerife , where he only made 25 appearances in two years. He then left Europe and went to Sanfrecce Hiroshima in Japan. After two seasons, he returned to his hometown club Adelaide City in 1999, where he played for four years. From 2003, he let his career end at Adelaide United , where he became an assistant coach after his retirement in 2005 and remained so in 2006. From the beginning of 2007 to 2010 he was the club's head coach. Later he was assistant coach of the Australian national team from 2010 to 2016, as well as head coach of the U-23 national team of Australia during the same period. In addition, he briefly looked after the Australian U-20 national team in 2012 and was also briefly interim coach of the senior national team. From 2016 to 2017 he coached the Thai first division club FC Bangkok Glass and has been without a club since then.
National team
Vidmar played a total of 53 times for Australia . He scored 18 goals. He was in 1993, 1997 and 2001 in each case for his country selection disappointing playoffs for the World Cup qualification on the field and was temporarily team captain of the selection. After a 3-0 defeat in 2001 against Uruguay missed the qualification for the 2002 World Cup , he announced his resignation.
