The Bürgerbusch is 320 hectares, the largest contiguous forest in Leverkusen . It lies between the districts of Alkenrath , Schlebusch , Steinbüchel , Lützenkirchen and Quettingen and is cut through by the Federal Motorway 1 . It is used intensively as a local recreation area.

The terrain is largely flat and slowly rises from west to east. Multiple streams ( Köttelbach , Blankenburger Bach, Landsberg Bach, Bürgerbuschbach ) flow through the wood, mainly in east-west direction, and form part of torrential wetlands, two of which (Erlenbruch in the northern part and Aue of Bürgerbusch Bach in the southern part) under conservation are.

The forest has mainly mixed forest character , common tree species are spruce, pine, beech , hornbeam , English oak , red oak , maple , birch and alder. Birds: great tits , blue , marsh , pine and tailed tit , winter and Firecrest , Nuthatch , tawny owl , woodpecker , chaffinch , blackbird , robin , wren , Chiffchaff , Marsh Warbler , Jay and carrion crow . Deer and squirrels can often be seen in mammals .

The Gezelinkapelle (Leverkusen-Alkenrath) is located on the southwestern edge .

The owner of the forest was the entrepreneur Wilfried Hilgert .
