history

Figure of a Bamberg brush dealer

The municipality of Ramberg has been known beyond the borders of the Palatinate for its brush- makers and brush dealers since the 18th century ; For a long time, these were almost the only jobs that were practiced in the remote location in the Palatinate Forest . First by laborious manual labor at home, then in industrial production , brooms , brushes , mops and similar utensils were made. In 1907 there were eight brush and brush wood factories in Ramberg. The raw material, especially wood and broom , was procured from the Holpertal , which begins in the northeast of the Ramberg district. The Bamberg brush dealers sell their goods not only throughout Germany, but also in other European countries.

museum

The museum provides insights into the professions of the brush maker and brush dealer. The industrial and social development in Ramberg from around 1800 to around 1970 is presented using a variety of exhibits. During expert tours, visitors are informed about the history, manufacture and sale of brooms and brushes. For example, you can see technical aids for brush production, a number of still functional machines and the life-size figure of a Bamberg brush dealer in original equipment . In addition, an overview of the family life in Bamberg from 1780 to 1960 is given.
