Badminton has been played at the Summer Olympics since 1992. In 1972, badminton was played as a demonstration sport in Munich (excluding women's doubles). Badminton was a demonstration sport for the second time in Seoul in 1988. In 2020, badminton will also be played at the Paralympic Games for the first time.
Competitions
Five competitions will be held (men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed). The first four disciplines mentioned have been part of the games program since 1992, and mixed was added in 1996. In 1972 the badminton competition took place as a demonstration sport (D), in 1988 as an exhibition (E).
