The Endersbach station in Weinstadt is located on the 14.4 km of the Remsbahn and is a station in the Stuttgart S-Bahn network .

history

For the construction of the Remsthalbahn from Cannstatt to Wasseralfingen , the Royal Württemberg State Railroad had to do some earthwork north of Endersbach. She built a viaduct with four arches over the Haldenbach and the road to Großheppach . The Endersbach station was built shortly afterwards. On July 25, 1861, the first trains rolled over the new route as scheduled.

The reception building is still preserved. It is a two-story sandstone building with a high knee and a flat hipped roof. On the ground floor there was a waiting room, a luggage room, service rooms and a mail expedition, which until 1896 was responsible for Beutelsbach , Schnait and Aichelberg in addition to Endersbach . The staff lived on the upper floors.

The municipality of Strümpfelbach, three kilometers away, tried several times to get the State Railway Directorate to rename the station Endersbach-Strümpfelbach . But this refused.

The hoped-for rapid settlement of factories did not materialize. Mainly fruit - especially cherries - the farmers from Endersbach, Schnait, Strümpfelbach and Stetten loaded in the direction of Stuttgart , sometimes as far as Munich, which is around 200 kilometers away .

In 1898 the post office moved to a new office building west of the reception building. Nevertheless, the vacated rooms were not enough. At the beginning of the 20th century, the reception building was given a one-story extension on the eastern side to accommodate a larger waiting room.

On October 26, 1899, the state railway put a second track between Waiblingen and Schorndorf into operation.

Clean-up after the disaster of 1914

On November 11, 1914, there was a railway accident in Endersbacher Bahnhof. Due to a faulty switch setting, a freight train entered on the wrong side and derailed. The locomotive and some wagons overturned. The engine driver and the stoker died. Other railway employees suffered some serious injuries.

At the end of the Second World War, retreating Wehrmacht units blew up the Haldenbach Viaduct. American pioneers completed a makeshift bridge in August 1945 in order to quickly enable rail traffic to Stuttgart again .

Since May 27, 1962, the Remsbahn between Waiblingen and Schorndorf has been electrified and integrated into the Stuttgart suburban traffic . On September 27, 1981, the Stuttgart S-Bahn line S 2 went into operation, which Endersbach now serves exclusively.
