The tube station is located at kilometer 16.7 of Gäubahn and is a station in the network of the Stuttgart S-Bahn . From an operational perspective, it is part of the Stuttgart-Vaihingen train station .
history
When the Royal Württemberg State Railroad opened the Gäubahn from Stuttgart to Freudenstadt in September 1879, many residents of Rohr saw only the disadvantage of the new means of transport. Some farmers had been expropriated for the construction of the line and the railroad would only bring noise and smell. But when industrialization began in the neighboring village of Vaihingen and the commuters from Rohr used the local train station, the advantage was also recognized.
In 1906 the Rohr stop (later supplemented by the addition (Württ) ) was put into operation. The station building was a one-story brick building with a waiting room and a service room on what was then track 1 in the direction of Böblingen .
At that time, the citizens of the small community had set themselves the goal of how the community of Degerloch should also become Rohr climatic health resort. A tourist association was founded. He wanted to build a health resort on the Rohrer Höhe. In 1915, the stop was given a loading point for luggage to better handle the arriving spa guests. The promotion as a health resort only brought the hoped-for success for a short time and the ideas of the tourist association ultimately failed due to a lack of money.
Since October 1920, the railway line to Echterdingen has branched off about 600 meters south of the stop . In 1935 the station was first renamed Rohr (b Stuttgart) . One year later, on October 1, 1936, the municipality of Rohr was incorporated into the municipality of Vaihingen on the Fildern. This led to the second renaming to Vaihingen-Rohr , but not until 1939. When Vaihingen was incorporated into Stuttgart in 1942, the name changed again to Stuttgart-Rohr .
From 1982 the Federal Railroad began the four-track expansion of the Gäubahntrasse between the confluence of the connecting line and the branch to Echterdingen. The station building fell victim to this expansion in 1984. The two outer platforms were replaced by a central platform.
Rail operations
The stop has an island platform that can be reached from the passage in Osterbronnstraße and the underpass in Egelhaafstraße and is served by lines S1, S2 and S3 of the Stuttgart S-Bahn. Track 2 is assigned to the S-Bahn in the direction of Herrenberg or the airport / exhibition center , Track 3 is assigned to the S-Bahn in the direction of Stuttgart Hbf. Tracks 1 and 4 are used by trains passing through and have no platforms.
Rohr station is assigned to station category 4.
