The Freudenstadt Stadt train station (also known as the city train station) is the second train station in the major district town of Freudenstadt after the main train station .

location

In contrast to the main train station, the Freudenstädter Stadtbahnhof is located near the city center. At 739 meters above sea level , the city station is the highest station on the Murg Valley Railway . The station is also in tariff zone 10 of the Freudenstadt District Transport Association (VGF).

history

As early as 1879, Freudenstadt received a connection to the national rail traffic with the construction of the Gäubahn, which ran from Stuttgart via Herrenberg and Eutingen im Gäu to Freudenstadt . Because even then the extension of the railway line into the valley of the Kinzig was planned and as part of the Kinzig Valley Railway was executed in 1886, the town was founded in the southeast, a train station, the main railway station today.

In 1901 the Württemberg part of the railway line leading through the Murg Valley towards Rastatt was opened, which ended in Klosterreichenbach until 1928 . The city train station, located 75 meters higher, was built north of the city center. The station building was a standardized type IIIb station, as it was often used at stations in the Murg Valley. This gave Freudenstadt a train station close to the center.

The station building was destroyed in April 1945 during the battle for Freudenstadt. A modern new building was erected in its place, which also housed the signal box. The main part is a one-story elongated building with a striking clock tower. The goods shed was connected to the east of the station building. It had a side ramp and a head ramp with an additional track. Today (2014) the trackless goods shed is used for catering.

Railway systems

The city railway station has 2,014 through a central platform between the tracks 1 and 2 and two as a stump tracks running siding . Track 1 is used for light rail traffic in the direction of Karlsruhe . The trams run from platform 2 in the direction of Freudenstadt Hbf and Eutingen im Gäu . Before the renovation for light rail operations in 2004, there was the house platform with track 1 and a central platform with tracks 2 and 3. In addition to the tracks at the goods shed, there were also three loading tracks with a gantry crane in the north in 1995. In the eastern part of the station, paper recycling and a land trade had their own siding.
