The Strasburg (Uckerm) station is a through station in the town of Strasburg (Uckermark) in the Vorpommern-Greifswald . It went into operation in 1867. Later, the place developed into a junction , since in addition to the main line from Stettin to Neubrandenburg , the lines from Wittenberge and Prenzlau ended in Strasburg. The latter route initially had its own train station, the Kreisbahnhof, which was located approx. 100 meters to the east. The trains from Prenzlau later also stopped at the Reichsbahnhof. After 1945 the line from the direction of Wittenberge between Thurow and Strasburg was dismantled; traffic to and from Prenzlau was stopped in May 1995. Today the station is served by the RE 4 line between Lübeck and Stettin . Two railway houses in the station area are under monument protection .

location

Strasburg train station is located at route kilometer 60.2 of the route from Stettin to Bützow and was the end point of the other two routes from Wittenberge and Prenzlau . It is located about 400 m north of the city center and borders the streets Haus am Bahnhof and Bahnhofsstraße . The border with the state of Brandenburg is about 2 km away. The next station to the east is Blumenhagen approx. 8 km away and the Oertzenhof train station approx. 12 km to the west.

history

After the Angermünde-Stralsund Railway and the line to Pasewalk were completed in 1864 , the start of traffic on the remaining line dragged on for a little more than two years. The reason for this was the state and customs border between Prussia and Mecklenburg and thus also different interests of the railway administrations involved: the Berlin-Stettiner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft and the Mecklenburg Friedrich-Franz-Eisenbahn . On December 15, 1866, both the line and its stations were operational on the line from Pasewalk to Strasburg. On January 1, 1867, the Strasburg train station opened. Until February 4, 1911, the company was called Strasburg i. d. U. (Strasburg in the Uckermark). Both the Prussian and Mecklenburg railway administrations were active in the station. When traffic continued to Woldegk on October 1, 1893, the Mecklenburg Friedrich-Wilhelm Railway also drove to the station. After two more weeks, freight trains were also running on this section. Since December 2, 1902, trains on the Prenzlauer Kreisbahnen also ended in Strasburg, but in the separate circular station about 100 m away. The other three railway companies used the station that still exists today. The two operating sites were linked by a connecting track. On January 1, 1941, the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over operations on the section from Neustrelitz via Woldegk to Strasburg, which was dismantled in 1945 as a reparation payment .

In 1950, the Deutsche Reichsbahn also took over operations on private and small railways. Thus the line from Prenzlau to Strasburg also belonged administratively to the Reichsbahn (DR). From now on, these trains also used the Reichsbahnhof. The district station was only intended for internal purposes, e.g. B. Vehicle parking and shunting service. This means that travelers no longer have to walk between the two stations.

From 1950 to the mid-1950s, a large number of locomotives were parked in the district station. These were used for reparations trips to the Soviet Union . The locomotives were continuously guarded by the Pasewalk depot . The employees were also responsible for protecting and maintaining the vehicles.

From May 1, 1951 to February 28, 1996 the station was called Strasburg (Meckl) . The old guard interlocking was closed on December 8, 2007.

Traffic volume

Strasburg had full clearance rights in domestic and international freight, passenger, baggage and express freight traffic.

Up until 1990, very high numbers were recorded in passenger and freight traffic, especially school and commuter traffic. This is no longer the case today. Every year around 60,000 people use the station to get on and off. The former district station was used by around 13,000 to 15,000 passengers a year. In the last few years trains still ran sporadically on the route to Prenzlau to serve a farm trader.

In freight transport, primarily agricultural and forestry products, empty dairy goods and individual consignments from companies and private individuals were transported. What arrived at the station were fuel and building materials, milk and, at harvest time, products for further processing.

Platforms and tracks

Platforms

At peak times, the Reichsbahnhof had four main tracks, which together were longer than three kilometers. The Mecklenburg Friedrich Wilhelm Railway owned one of them. There were also 13 other side tracks. There was also a long pull-out track and two special transfer tracks to a sugar factory. The dispatcher and the attendant controlled the train and shunting operations and operated the twenty points and nine main signals .

Platforms up to 280 m long were provided on three tracks for passenger traffic. Today the trains stop at the house platform and at another intermediate platform .

Reception building

In the reception building there was a ticket dispenser with baggage and express goods handling and also service rooms for the station administration. The train station restaurant and other sanitary facilities were still closed today on the ground floor. There were further service apartments and storage rooms on the upper floors.

A landscaping, demolition and earthworking company has been based on the former loading street for the past few years.

Facilities of the district station

Since the district station was of much less importance, it was also much simpler. It had seven tracks that were two kilometers long. Two tracks were equipped with short platforms. There was also a slight head and side ramp. A small building was intended for service and residential purposes. It was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt soon afterwards.

Communication facilities

Strasburg had a small basa that was connected to the basa in Neubrandenburg and Pasewalk. There were also telephone connections via the Basa between the head of the service, the employees responsible for operations, the group leader for traffic at the station, the driver, ticket issuance, goods handling, car service, the Neubrandenburg railway maintenance facility, the workers' lounge, the workshops, the signaling and Fernmeldemeisterei Neustrelitz and existing housing service connections.

Also involved in the basa were the section authorized representative of the transport police and the district transport officer at the district council. At the time of the locomotive watch in the district station, this was also equipped with a telephone connection. There was also a telephone connection to the Deutsche Post and Telekom network.

Other plants

The Reichsbahnhof was also equipped with line and station block systems.

A water tower and a water crane were used to supply the trains with feed water when the steam locomotive was in operation .

Other offices outside the station

Strasburg also had offices and outposts outside the station, which were responsible for maintaining the security and telecommunications systems. For the safe handling of traffic there was a railway maintenance office in Strasburg , which took care of work on the superstructure and the line. This was later converted into a route championship district.

Connecting railway

A grain business once operated a 1030 m long connecting railway. A small diesel locomotive was used there for in-house shunting work.

Connection

Strasburg station is served by regional express line 4. This runs every hour between Neubrandenburg and Pasewalk . Every 120 minutes, trains continue to Szczecin Główny .
