The Evangelical Free Church Baptist Chapel Ditzumerverlaat is located in the district of the same name in the East Frisian community of Bunde . It was built in 1899.

history

The beginnings of the Baptist congregation in Ditzumerverlaat go back to the missionary activity of Baptists from their own, which is considered the mother congregation of all older East Frisian Baptist congregations. They used their business contacts to distribute evangelistic scriptures. The believers first gathered in various private houses in Ditzum, Ditzumerverlaat, Dyksterhusen, Jemgum, and Koldeborgersiel. In 1853 there was a report of a worship service with 200 people in the parents' house of the Frisian preacher Peter Johannes de Neui , who was born in Ditzumerverlaat . In the same year, two women and three men from Ditzum and Ditzumerverlaat were baptized in the open air. After several years of regular meetings in the house of Jochum Duprée, the first church leader, the church was officially founded on April 26, 1865. In 1869 there were tensions within the congregation, so that the young congregation dissolved again and Ditzumerverlaat became one of yours. Probably in 1875 there was a new establishment. When a widow donated a piece of land to the community, the small chapel was built on it with the help of financial support from other communities. In 1921 the congregation appointed its own pastor, whom the congregation shared with the Baptist congregation in Wymeer . Between 1930 and 1945, preachers from the neighboring congregations carried out substitute services. In 1937 the building threatened to be expropriated and converted into a prison camp, as the cast iron windows seemed to offer the National Socialists favorable conditions for this. A negotiation in Berlin in 1940 prevented the expropriation, since the chapel had become the property of the federal government. When the chapel was built in 1899, the congregation had 58 members, in 1981 there were 46, in 2012 there were 17 baptized members, of whom only five live in Ditzumerverlaat. The service attendance in 2009 was 20 to 30 visitors. From 1964 to 1997 the congregation shared a minister with the Wymeer Baptist congregation . From 1999 she has her own pastor again. The Baptist Congregation Ditzumerverlaat belongs to the Evangelical Free Church State Association of Baptists in the Northwest and within the State Association to the regional Ems-Jade Mission .

The chapel is 9 by 14 meters, making it one of the smallest churches in East Frisia. Externally, it has remained largely unchanged. Since the building was erected on the old Deichstrasse, a base compensates for the slope. The long sides are structured by pilaster strips. Round- arched windows provide sufficient light in the fields . The gable side facing the street has a tall round window above the entrance. The simply designed interior is finished off by a white, gold-colored wooden beam ceiling.
