Baptist Chapel in Jennelt

The Evangelical Free Church Baptist Chapel Jennelt is located in the district of the same name in the East Frisian community of Krummhörn . It was built around 1900 as a conversion of a former horse stable.

history

The beginnings of the Baptist congregation in Jennelt go back to the missionary work of Baptists from their own, which is considered the mother congregation of all older East Frisian Baptist congregations. In 1865, a branch community was founded in Hamswehrum by yours, which had a meeting house there for ten years, which was later sold again. In 1875 the Krummhörner Baptists moved their church work to Jennelt. The large catchment area included the Krummhörn, Emden and Brokmerland . The Jennelter community in turn became the starting point for the establishment of communities in Emden, Norden and Moorhusen .

The congregation currently has no full-time pastors. In 2010, the Sunday services were attended by 40 to 50 people. The Jennelt Baptist Congregation belongs to the Evangelical Free Church State Association of Baptists in the Northwest and, within the State Association, to the regional Ems-Jade Mission .

Building description

Around 1900 the Jennelter Baptists converted a former horse stable and inaugurated it as a place of worship. The first renovation was carried out in 1928. Today's front on the street side, where the main entrance used to be, as well as an annex date from the 1970s.

The entrance portal is now located in the annex, in which the kitchen and a group room are located next to the foyer with book table and cloakroom. The church service room, which has consisted of two wings since the 1970s, can be reached through another door. The seating on both wings is aligned with the pulpit and the Lord's Supper table. In the old wing there is a small gallery with an organ. The instrument was built in 1952 by Eberhard Friedrich Walcker with four registers on a manual without a pedal and was bought second-hand by the municipality. The technology desk is located under the gallery, which is used to control the sound system and the projector, which is regularly used in church services. The wall behind the Lord's Supper table and pulpit is adorned with a colorful rose window. Below it is a simple wooden cross. The baptistery is set into the ground and is only opened during baptismal services. A door behind the Lord's Supper table leads to further group rooms, which, among other things , serve as a domicile for the Sunday school , youth group and youth group of the congregation. The sanitary facilities are also located in this area.

In November 2012, a further renovation and expansion of the church was handed over to its destination after a construction period of 16 months.
