Beau Bridges (born December 9, 1941 in Hollywood , Los Angeles , California ; actually Lloyd Vernet Bridges III ) is an American actor . He became particularly well known in the 1970s and 1980s.

Life

Bridges is the son of the actor couple Lloyd Bridges and Dorothy Bridges (nee Simpson), who was also a poet. Beau is also the older brother of actor Jeff Bridges and sister Lucinda, called Cindy. He took on his first roles as a child in the 1940s. His path was mapped out early on. As a student, he played basketball in the college league and was on his way to becoming a professional basketball player, but for the benefit of acting he gave up another sports career. In 1967 he played his first leading role in a film.

Bridges has received various television awards, including three Emmy awards and two Golden Globe awards for television roles. From 2005 to 2007 he was part of the regular cast of the science fiction series Stargate SG-1 and thus became known to a wide audience apart from film roles. He also played in the American secret service series The Agency - In the crosshairs of the CIA as director of the CIA. He also played from 2005 to 2009 Carl Hickey , the father of "good-for-nothing" Earl Hickey , in the US sitcom My Name Is Earl . In 2009, Bridges received his twelfth Emmy nomination for his guest appearance as Eli Scruggs in the episode The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened of the series Desperate Housewives .

Beau Bridges has been married for a second time since 1984 and is the father of five children from his two marriages, including his son Jordan from his first marriage, who is also an actor.
