Benedetta Barzini

Benedetta Barzini (born September 22, 1943 in Porto Santo Stefano ) is an Italian model who was one of the most famous photo models, especially in the 1960s. Later she turned to Marxism and radical feminism and worked as a professor of fashion design at various universities.

Live and act

Barzini was born in 1943 as the daughter of the Corriere della Sera newspaper editor Luigi Barzini junior and his first wife Giannalisa Gianzana, widowed Feltrinelli. Her mother, a monarchist , was the heir to one of Italy's greatest fortunes. She is the half-sister of the publisher and communist Giangiacomo Feltrinelli , her half-brother from her father's second marriage is the film director Andrea Barzini .

After completing school at a Swiss boarding school for girls , she was discovered and approached on the street by Vogue editor Consuelo Crespi in 1963 . She received her first offer for a photoshoot with Irving Penn from the editor-in-chief of the American edition of Vogue, Diana Vreeland . Although she only wanted to travel to New York City for ten days , she stayed for four years. During this time she was often a guest in Andy Warhol's The Factory .

Barzini worked as a model until 1969, working with photographers such as Richard Avedon , Bert Stern and Ugo Mulas . In November 1965 she was the cover model of the first Italian Vogue issue, which made her famous in her home country.

In 1973 she retired from modeling and turned to Marxism and radical feminism . As a professor of fashion design, she teaches at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano (NABA), the Milan Polytechnic and the University of Urbino, among others .

Private life

At the end of the 1960s she moved back to Italy. There she met the director Roberto Faenza . The couple married in 1969, but Faenza left Barzini on the day their twins were born. She later had two other children from another relationship.
